About Me

I'm Dr Omar Atta, a Consultant Psychiatrist registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the General Medical Council, with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry and a specialist endorsement in Substance Misuse. I also hold Approved Clinician status.

I have worked across a wide range of clinical environments, from acute inpatient and intensive care settings to community teams, addiction services, and specialist neurodevelopmental clinics. I use structured, evidence-based tools where appropriate, and I place a high value on clear communication. I will always take the time to explain my thinking, share my clinical opinion with you, and make sure that any treatment plan we develop is one you understand and feel invested in. Whatever has brought you here, I'll approach your situation with the same rigour, care, and honesty.

I also prepare expert witness and medico-legal reports for legal proceedings, drawing on my forensic and risk-informed clinical experience.

My approach

Addiction Psychiatry and Dual Diagnosis

Deciding to talk to someone about alcohol, drugs, or an addictive behaviour is one of the hardest steps there is. Many of my patients tell me they put it off for years. When you do reach out, you deserve to be met with genuine expertise and absolutely no judgement.

Addiction is rarely straightforward. For many people, substance use becomes entangled with other mental health difficulties like depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or psychosis. These presentations are often called dual diagnosis, and they need a clinician who can hold the full picture rather than treat each difficulty in isolation.

I have specialist training and extensive experience in addiction psychiatry. My experience spans alcohol and drug use disorders, behavioural addictions, relapse prevention, and the complex interactions between substance use and severe mental illness, mood disorders, trauma, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

My approach to addiction is evidence-based and practical, combining psychosocial and pharmacological interventions within a framework that takes account of the full range of factors affecting your life, not just your substance use.

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in Adults

Receiving an accurate autism diagnosis as an adult can be life-changing. It can provide clarity, access to the right support, and a framework for understanding yourself that may have been missing for years. I am trained in gold-standard Autism assessments, including the ADOS-2 Module 4 and ADI-R-informed assessment, and I provide comprehensive diagnostic assessments with detailed written reports and feedback.

ADHD in Adults

ADHD in adults is frequently missed or misunderstood, particularly when it presents alongside other conditions. I have extensive experience initiating, monitoring, and titrating ADHD medication. I also hold specialist training from the UKAAN Adult ADHD Clinical Training Course. If you have been wondering whether ADHD might be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing, I can offer a thorough, structured assessment and a clear, honest account of the findings and what they mean for you.

Medico-Legal Reports and Expert Witness

I prepare psychiatric expert witness reports for legal proceedings and have experience of court and tribunal work from my time in forensic settings.
