Areas of Expertise
Addiction & Lifestyle Psychiatry
I have experience of working in drug addiction services, alcohol services, and specialist behavioural addiction services such as the National Centre for Gaming Disorders. Through my background in group-based psychotherapies, I have an understanding of the central role of group treatment in addiction recovery and the power of peer-support communities.
The dialogue between self-defeating lifestyles and mental ill health is compellingly articulated in addictive disorders. As a Liaison Psychiatrist, I am keenly aware of the Gordian knot binding lifestyle and physical wellness to mental wellness. Having previously worked as a researcher at Stanford University’s Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology Laboratory, I have maintained a focus on the role of lifestyle factors in psychiatric practice. I have published and presented research on sleep at multiple international conferences.
Personality & Relational Difficulties
I support individuals who experience difficulties with self-esteem, relationships, identity, or emotion regulation—often rooted in trauma, complex early life experiences, or longstanding patterns of relating. My aim is to help individuals understand these patterns and develop new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Complex & Co-occurring Conditions
Many people come to me with overlapping conditions—such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance misuse, or personality difficulties—where standard approaches may have fallen short or in situations where things feel stuck. I specialise in rethinking 'complex' or 'treatment-resistant' presentations through integrating different perspectives and lenses.
Psychological Formulation & Psychotherapy
As part of my psychiatric practice, I work psychotherapeutically. I am not limited to one approach and integrate several evidence-based methods including:
- Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP)
- Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches
- Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)
- Group Analytic methods
- Cognitive and systemic elements, depending on individual needs
Physical & Mental Health Integration
With endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry, I have extensive experience working at the intersection between mental and physical health—supporting patients where emotional distress is linked with physical conditions, or where symptoms defy simple medical explanations.
My Approach
I believe psychiatry should not reduce people to diagnoses. I strive to understand each patient in the context of their life story, relationships, and personal goals. I tailor treatment to what matters most to you, whether that is managing symptoms, making sense of your experiences, or finding new direction.
